Scalable Multiresolution Video Coding using Subband Decomposition

چکیده

A subband approach to scalable multiresolution video coding is presented. In a first step of experiments this scheme is applied to the coding of I–frames, where bit rate savings up to 21.1% compared with MPEG–2 spatial scalability are achieved. In a next step it will be used for inter–frame coding of P– and B–frames.

Scalable Image and Video Coding Using Wavelet Decomposition

Wavelet transforms are multiresolution decompositions that can be used to analyze signals and images. The wavelet representation is inherently hierarchical, making it an excellent choice for building scalable codecs. In this report, we address the compression of still and moving images using wavelet-based methods. The discussion will be centered on two issues: performance evaluation and multire...

Delay–performance Trade-offs in Motion-compensated Scalable Subband Video Compression

Scalable video coding based on motion-compensated spatiotemporal (t + 2D) wavelet decomposition is becoming increasingly popular, as it provides coding performance competitive with state-of-the-art codecs while accommodating varying network bandwidth and different receiver capabilities (e.g., frame-rate, display size, CPU, memory size). However, these temporal multiresolution schemes may introd...

Spatially Scalable Video Coding with In-band Prediction

The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has been widely used in scalable video coding for its advantages in multi-resolution analysis and subband decomposition. In this paper, a spatially scalable video coding system based on H.264 coding method and in-band overcomplete discrete wavelet transform (ODWT) technique is proposed, which integrates the good compression performance of H.264 in low freque...

Comparison of Spatial M-band Filter Banks for t+2D Video coding

Some of the most powerful schemes for scalable video coding are based on the so-called t+2D paradigm. In these schemes, temporal redundancy is first exploited through a motion-compensated multiresolution decomposition and the resulting temporal subband frames are then generally spatially decomposed with a wavelet transform. Thus, temporal and spatial scalability are achieved, in particular when...

MPEG-Based Scalable Video Codec with 3-D Subband Decomposition

The MPEG-2 video coding standard provides the functionality of spatial scalability in an inefficient way. Therefore solutions based on subband decomposition gained a lot of interest very recently. In particular, this paper deals with scalable (hierarchical) coding of video at bitrates in the range of about 2-6 Mbps. The solution proposed in the paper is based on both temporal and spatial resolu...
